Lifestyle Medicine and Atrial Fibrillation

Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in North America. Diagnoses include atrial fibrillation, where the heart beats irregularly, which can lead to heart attack or stroke.

I want to say Lifestyle Medicine is good for every medical condition on the planet. However, as a pharmacist, I need to have evidence to back my claims. Otherwise, I merely stating an opinion instead of a fact.

I have some evidence to share about the benefits of lifestyle medicine for atrial fibrillation. I would like to thank Dr. Maria Theodorou for sharing this video by Dr. John Mandrola, a cardiac electrophysiologist at Baptist Health in Louisville, Kentucky. His specialty is heart rhythms. Dr. Mandrola stated that nutrition, physical activity, stress reduction, sleep, and decreasing alcohol intake can improve atrial fibrillation. If you have followed my blog, you will know that these health behaviours are pillars of Lifestyle Medicine. He also mentioned that in most cases, these healthy behaviours will help prevent atrial fibrillation. I have posted a link to Dr. Mandrola’s five-minute presentation on my resource page.

Do you know someone with atrial fibrillation? Please share this post and the video link with them. Thanks for reading! #lifestylemedicine #seniors #olderadults #atrialfibrillation #heartdisease
