ChatGPT is a free website that uses artificial intelligence and answers any question you have. When I asked it to suggest movies like "Airplane", within 30 seconds, it gave me a list of eight options within thirty seconds! These included: "Hot Shots!"(1991), "Spaceballs" (1987), and "Blazing Saddles" (1974). I now have many funny movies to watch!
ChatGPT incorporates all data on the Internet up to 2021. Due to this reliance on internet data, it can make errors, which experts refer to as “hallucinations." Hallucinations occur about 20% of the time. Nevertheless, the website has exceptional language skills.
If like me, you are of the older generation, you may remember the movie "The Adolescence of P1" which had a Canadian adaptation. In this film, artificial intelligence nearly causes a nuclear accident while attempting to increase its capabilities, which is quite alarming to consider.
Technology is a tool that can help or harm. I decided to create something useful using ChatGPT. I analyzed a patient information sheet (usually given with a new medication) about amoxicillin. ChatGPT informed me that the information sheet was written at a high school or above level of comprehension which could create a barrier for some of my clients. I asked for a translation of the sheet into a grade eight level of literacy. I have included both versions for you to view below. Please note, the grade eight level sheet lacks a standard disclaimer, which could be added by using copy and paste.
